Santa Clara — California. Calling all San Francisco 49er fans! Super Bowl LV is just days away, February 7th, and the whole NFL will have their eyes on Tampa Bay, Florida.

As painful as it might be for all of Niners Nation. It was just over a year and a day ago when the San Francisco 49ers faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs, in Miami, Florida, in last year’s Super Bowl.

The 49ers had a ten-point lead with less than seven minutes in the fourth quarter, Robert Saleh, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, and the 49ers defense had Patrick Mahomes looking pedestrian, and then the rest is history.

Super Bowl week is always a good time to reflect on what teams to do to get back to the big game. Now me being from the Bay Area, a die-hard 49ers fan, I like to look at Super Bowl week to see how the 49ers can improve from the previous season to the upcoming season.

So how can the 49ers get better from this season to next season? Well, everyone can take the easy way out and say the roster needs to get healthier. Saying that the 49er’s injury issues will solve all their problems is low-hanging fruit.

Getting star players back on the field like Nick Bosa, Deebo Samuel, K’Waun Williams, and Jimmy Garoppolo is a good start. Having healthy players back on the field will cover up many blemishes the 49ers have, lack of pass rush, lack of NFL caliber receivers, and big-time playmakers.

We can talk about injury issues all day long. All the talking heads on the big-time networks have discussed 49er’s injury issues to death.

So let’s go deeper.

What is one issue that people are focusing on that is a significant concern regarding the 49ers?

One primary concern is that the 49ers roster has 27 upcoming unrestricted free agents about to hit free agency, critical players like Pro Bowl Full Back Kyle Juszczyk, Pro Bowl Corner Back Jason Verrett, and stand-out Defensive End Kerry Hyder Jr.

The truth is the 49ers do not have a lot of money to pay all of the 27 upcoming free agents currently on their roster this offseason. Some of our favorite players will be wearing a different uniform next season. It’s a sad truth but a truth nonetheless.

Another primary concern the San Francisco 49ers have to address this offseason is their offensive line, specifically Left Tackle Trent Williams.

The 49ers need to sign Trent Williams to a long-term deal this upcoming offseason. If the 49ers don’t sign Trent Williams, the offense will be losing a crucial piece to the offensive unit and team as a whole.

All-Pro left tackles are so challenging to come by in the NFL. They’re so rare, and NFL teams pay top dollar good left tackles. The left tackle position in football is so important, no matter what level of the game, to a group on and off the field. By protecting the QB’s blindside, setting the tone and edge on running plays, and being a leader and voice of the team off the field. Left tackles are a a crucial piece in the game of tackle football.

All those reasons stated are why the 49ers need to sign Trent Williams to a long-term contract this upcoming free agency period. If the 49ers can sign Trent Williams to a long-term deal this offseason, then they will have taken a step in the right direction for next season.
